Learning and Engagement Programme (LEP)

The Learning and Engagement Program (LEP)

The Learning and Engagement Program supports the learning of students in a variety of educational environments across the College from P-12.  It purposefully involves a variety of stakeholders to ensure educational priorities are met.  The LEP team provides support to Students with Disabilities (SWD), students with English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) as well as students who require learning support (LSP)


1) SWD staff provide support to Students with disabilities (SWD):


  • Arrange and provide in-class support
  • Facilitate alternative conditions for tasks, homework, assessment
  • Withdraw from mainstream classes if required for one-on-one assistance /instruction/ small groups
  • Facilitate transition (Junior –Secondary, Secondary – Post School)
  • Liaise with VET teacher to facilitate work experience /TAFE
  • Monitor and support social /extra curricular participation and emotional well-being
  • Promote inclusion in mainstream/school classes and activities
  • Consult with all  stakeholders, parents teachers and therapists
  • Facilitate the following Programs:
    • Cooking
    • Community access
    • Social Skills
    • Sensory Skills
    • Fine Motor Skills
    • Lunch clubs
    • Gardening Program
    • Art Projects
    • Hydrotherapy Program for identified students  


2) English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D):

  • Small group support at level off  student competency (according to EAL/D Band Scales)
  • In class support
  • Support with assessment tasks and exams
  • EAL/D OP English classes from Year 10 - 12
  • Hands on Programs (eg “Food week”- When students bring in dishes from their  various cultures)


3) Learning Support (LSP):

  • Targeted support in Literacy eg:
    - Phonics
    - Reading Comprehension
    - Genre writing
    - Vocabulary
    - Listening Skills
    - Presentation skills
  • Targeted support in Maths eg:
    - Number
    - Basic  calculations
    - Problem solving
  •  Dyslexic students are included in learning support.
  •  Pre and post testing to map student progress.
  •  Calamvale Horizons Program (CHP) in Year 7-9:
    - Students in CHP work at their own individual levels



The LEP team is a dynamic and creative team who loves teaching and supporting students to reach their full potential!
