Pick-up and Drop-off Zone

30/01/2015

Our local Counsellor Angela Owen-Taylor, and a dedicated Parking Taskforce team including P&C Qld and past Calamvale P&C president Madonna Stewart, has been successful in assisting schools to provide safe drop-off and pick-up zones for parents and students. Counsellor Angela Owen-Taylor, and a dedicated Parking Taskforce team including P&C Qld and past Calamvale P&C president Madonna Stewart, has been successful in assisting schools to provide safe drop-off and pick-up zones for parents and students.  Councillor Owen-Taylor, Mayor Quirk and Deputy Mayor launched the new strategy at Calamvale Community College on Tuesday, with the arrival of the high-visibility enforcement vehicle.  The Council recognise the danger that surrounds speeding and unsafe driving in school drop-off zones and our College appreciates the focus on:

o   Illegal parking (across driveways, on footpaths, adjacent to intersections etc) including double parking caused by parents coming early to wait in the pickup zone from 2.30pm and cars queuing to pick up children, blocking through traffic

o   Lack of parking and traffic congestion

o   Safety around parking areas

o   The operation of drop off zones - parking areas are not being respected and are not enforced enough. This is causing major distress and is dangerous for children.

Please be mindful of all children as you enter and leave the drop-off zones.  We have a very efficient parking system provided by the Council, but it does require everyone to follow the rules.

All the best for a wonderful year of challenge and engagement, We look forward to our learning partnership with you and to sharing in the celebrations of your student’s success.
