Calamvale Community College Evacuation 3/2/2016

Dear Parents and Carers

As was published on the College Facebook page yesterday, we received a telephone bomb threat at approximately 12.40pm.

The College initiated our Emergency Response Plan and Queensland Police responded very promptly.  When police arrived, they supported the College’s concern for student and staff welfare given their location on the oval and ‘cleared’ the gym promptly, allowing the students and staff to move into the shade whilst the rest of the search was conducted.

The incident was managed by the police who conducted a thorough search of the College  before giving an ‘all clear’.

Our students, staff and parents cooperated very well with the police and showed great patience and maturity.  The staff ensured student safety at all times and I was very grateful for the speed and accuracy of the evacuation process facilitated by staff and supported by the police.

Given that the ‘clearance’ was provided close to the end of the school day and two thousand students had to be, reassured and managed back to classrooms and then exited from College at the regular time, this letter could not be sent home yesterday.  Notification of student safety was placed on the College and the P&C Facebook pages.  Please contact the College if you wish to discuss this incident with our College Guidance Officer.

I was very proud of our school community and appreciate the professional support of our police service.

Kind regards

Lisa Starmer
